Trial by Fire – Reflection by Jeanette Schieber
In today’s first reading we hear the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refusing to worship or serve the King’s god. The King becomes furious, and had them bound and cast into the white-hot furnace. When the King looks into the fire, he is astonished to find not three bound men but FOUR untied and unhurt men walking in the fire. The King added that the fourth looked like the son of God.
So many times in our lives we are trying to do God’s will, but we allow the heat of daily stress, peer pressure, or even our own inner struggles pull us to worship other gods. We must remember that God is always walking with us to help us through these times of trial. May this Lenten season help us not only look for God, but to recognize God in everything.
