Deacon Formation Program

The Deacon Formation program was established in 1989 to prepare candidates for ordination to the permanent diaconate through theological formation. The coursework is designed to deepen the faith of the candidates and their wives, and to prepare them for parish and church ministry in the dioceses for which they are ordained.

Classes in the program cover a variety of areas, including:

  • Scripture
  • Dogmatic theology
  • Christian morality
  • Canon Law
  • History of the Church
  • Homiletics

Participants may earn undergraduate credit; however, there is no degree associated with this program. Classes are offered during one week in August and one weekend each month from September to May over a period of three and one-half years.
