Conception Seminary College to Host Annual Soccer/Volleyball Tournament
Soccer and volleyball tournament brings together seminarians discerning God’s call
The 9th Annual Thunder Cup Soccer and Volleyball Tournament will be held October 15-16 at Conception Seminary College in Conception, Mo. Seven seminaries from across the Midwest will gather for a weekend of faith, fellowship, and friendly competition at this annual event.
“The Thunder Cup tournament is a chance for like-minded young men discerning the priesthood to come together and share their experience of answering God’s call. They also get to enjoy a little sport and friendly competition,” said Fr. Pat York, Vice-Rector and Dean of Students at Conception Seminary College. Over the years, a healthy rivalry and fellowship have formed among the participating seminaries.
The soccer matches will begin at 10:00 am on the two fields at Conception Seminary College and will continue throughout the day. The championship game will be held on Sunday, October 16 at 8:00 am followed by the Sunday celebration of Mass in the Abbey Basilica at 10:30.
The volleyball games will begin at 6:45 pm in the gym of St. Michael’s Hall. They will be 15 minutes in length with rally scoring.
Seminaries attending are: Kenrick-Glennon Seminary of St. Louis, Mo., Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary of Denton, Ne., St. Gregory the Great Seminary of Seward, Ne., St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology of St. Meinrad, In., Mundelein Seminary of Mundelein, Il, St. John Vianney Seminary of St. Paul, Mn., and the host school Conception Seminary College of Conception, Mo.
The event is free and open to the public.
