2/12 Lenten Reflection by Ben Rogers

“A heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn,” (Ps. 51:17).  I once heard that true humility was recognizing things the way things really are. In reality, we all struggle with temptations. We all have failed in our love for our neighbor at some point. We are selfish, and we don’t even recognize it sometimes. The list of our individual failures is staggering if we had the ability and time to record them all. Even so, hope is ever present. When we recognize our own failures, we can take them to the confessional and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In our own sorrow for our failures we can recognize and hear Christ speaking to us through the Priest. Hope is ever present for us. Mercy is waiting for us. God will not spurn us.
